Application Engineer (m/f/d)

For one of our clients we are looking for an  Application Engineer (m/f/d) based in Luxembourg.

General Information :

Location: 100% on?site during the first 3 months, then up to 2 remote working days per week, to be agreed with the line manager.

Assignment type: Long?term mission.

Mission & Role Overview :

The Application Engineer plays a key role at the intersection of business, software engineering, and DevOps. Embedded within a delivery team, the role transforms business needs into scalable, secure, and operable software solutions aligned with architectural standards and regulatory requirements.

This position spans the full software delivery lifecycle, from discovery and design to implementation, integration, validation, and operations, while providing technical leadership across coding standards, design quality, testing practices, and continuous delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Business & Domain Engineering

• Partner with Architects, Product Owners, and SMEs to translate business needs into testable and traceable system requirements.
• Perform end?to?end impact analysis across processes, applications, data flows, and integrations.
• Ensure alignment with target architecture, security standards, and regulatory constraints.
• Maintain business logic changes (rules, features, stories, acceptance criteria) throughout the lifecycle.

Application Engineering Lifecycle (Plan → Build → Operate)

Plan & Analyze

• Conduct feasibility and complexity assessments.
• Identify risks and integration strategies.
• Align with architecture and evaluate end?to?end implications.

System Design

• Define system?level designs, integration patterns (APIs, messaging, events), and data flows.
• Specify integration contracts and interface specifications.

Implement & Integrate

• Support implementation, configuration, and migration activities.
• Work across cloud, hybrid, and on?premises environments.

Transition to Operate

• Lead production readiness activities (runbooks, monitoring, alerting, SLO/SLA setup).
• Collaborate closely with DevOps teams.

Operate & Improve

• Provide L2/L3 operational support.
• Conduct availability reviews, root cause analyses, and post?mortems.
• Feed operational insights back into design and backlog refinement.

Software Engineering Support

• Ensure non?functional requirements are embedded by design.
• Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and technical spikes.

DevOps, CI/CD & Platform Enablement

• Collaborate on environment strategy and configuration management.
• Drive automation, observability, and operational efficiency.

Quality, Risk & Compliance

• Apply quality?by?design, security?by?design, and privacy?by?design principles.
• Ensure documentation and traceability for audit and compliance.
• Perform risk assessments (performance, security, operational).

Application Responsibility (AR)

• Provide end?to?end ownership for assigned applications across build and run.
• For custom solutions, collaborate with Software Engineers; for packaged solutions, focus on integration and lifecycle management.
• Contribute to Communities of Practice to share standards, patterns, and lessons learned.
