Project Overview

We are looking for an experienced Test Systems Development Engineer to support the development, improvement and enhancement of laboratory testing equipment and test methods.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing complex mechanical fixtures, developing virtual assemblies and simulations, creating surrogate devices and supporting the validation of laboratory test methods. You will also work with statistical analysis, programming and automation to improve testing processes and measurement system performance.

You will collaborate with internal engineering teams and external suppliers to investigate technical challenges, identify root causes and implement effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design complex mechanical fixtures using SolidWorks to support the development, improvement and enhancement of laboratory test equipment.

  • Develop SolidWorks animations and virtual assemblies to model active fixture systems with multiple interacting components.

  • Simulate complex fixture operations and cycling to support technical evaluations before physical manufacturing.

  • Design, manufacture and test surrogate devices to support the development and validation of test methods.

  • Perform statistical data analysis using Minitab to assess test method readiness and support validation activities.

  • Develop and apply advanced mathematical and statistical approaches to investigate signal-processing parameters and improve measurement system performance.

  • Create and maintain advanced ZIMT scripts to implement additional functionality and automation beyond the standard capabilities of TestXpert III.

  • Work closely with external suppliers to investigate technical issues, perform troubleshooting and implement effective solutions.

  • Explore and apply AI-assisted approaches to accelerate development activities, particularly in coding and electronic surrogate solutions, including Arduino-based applications.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Excellent knowledge of SolidWorks, particularly complex fixture design, animations and virtual assemblies.

  • Experience in designing, developing and optimising mechanical fixtures and surrogate devices.

  • Strong understanding of laboratory testing equipment and test method development.

  • Good knowledge of test method validation and measurement systems.

  • Strong statistical and data analysis skills, including practical experience with Minitab.

  • Experience with ZIMT scripting and TestXpert III software.

  • Knowledge of mathematical methods, signal processing and measurement system optimisation.

  • Experience working with suppliers and resolving technical issues.

  • Interest in using AI and automation to support engineering and development activities.

Additional Requirements

  • Excellent written and spoken English.

  • Access to the required working systems and software, including NRV, SolidWorks and TestXpert III.

  • Previous experience with 1-QEM or other relevant internal quality management systems would be advantageous.

  • Availability during European working hours to ensure effective collaboration with the wider project team.

  • Ability to work independently, manage a high workload and consistently deliver high-quality results.
