Engagement Details

• Full-time contract (5 days per week).
• Start: ASAP until end of December 2026 (extention possible)
• Remote working with occasional onsite presence in Vienna, when required.
• Candidates performing onsite work in Austria should be willing and able to comply with Austrian tax and social security requirements where applicable.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Backend Engineer with a strong software engineering background and an interest in applying AI technologies to accelerate development and drive innovation. You will be part of an international Agile team, designing and building scalable backend solutions while leveraging AI to improve development workflows and prototype new ideas.

This role combines hands-on backend engineering with technical analysis, solution design, and collaboration across product, engineering, and business teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Utilize AI technologies to accelerate feature development and improve engineering productivity.
• Develop prototypes and technical proposals for solution enhancements and system migrations.
• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Go and Java.
• Build and maintain cloud-native applications running on Kubernetes.
• Design RESTful APIs, event-driven architectures, and event schemas.
• Develop microservices and serverless (Functions as a Service) solutions.
• Work with event streaming and event sourcing technologies, including Apache Pulsar.
• Automate integration, testing, deployment, and release processes using GitOps practices and ArgoCD.
• Collaborate with Product Owners and stakeholders to analyse requirements and define technical solutions.
• Support business analysis activities by providing technical expertise and identifying system capabilities and constraints.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
• Work closely with backend, frontend, DevOps, QA, and business teams within an Agile environment.

Required Skills & Experience

• Several years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Strong experience with Go and/or Java.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerised applications.
• Experience designing and implementing REST APIs and microservices.
• Knowledge of event-driven architecture, event streaming, and event sourcing concepts.
• Experience with Apache Pulsar or similar messaging platforms is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with GitOps methodologies and deployment tools such as ArgoCD.
• Interest in applying AI technologies to software development and engineering processes.
• Ability to develop and present technical concepts, prototypes, and solution proposals to technical and business stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Proactive, creative, and solution-oriented mindset.
• Fluent English is required; German is an advantage.

Nice to Have

• Experience with cloud-native architectures.
• Knowledge of serverless computing (FaaS).
• Experience working in enterprise-scale distributed systems.
• Previous experience in business analysis or close collaboration with Product Owners.
